A Boat a Day (no.335)

30 days to go! Before I know it I'll be a freebird with a lot of time on my hands :) I'm looking forward to it, but don't panic I will be back to blogging before you blink.
Today I met my 4 week old namesake, she is very tiny and cute and is the first person I've met with my name.
My boat is a few sketches of different kinds of boats, inspired by my shipwreck book.

A Boat a Day (no.334)

A few weeks ago you may remember I designed a colouring competition for the Arts Trail, we had a lot of fun entertaining kids and adults as they passed through. Many of them wanted to take theirs home with them and so i am left with just six entries, mostly done by adults. So my philosophy, (when picking a winner) is to make something for everyone as I love all the entries.
(still hanging on my living room wall)
So I've made some little pendants out of clay, embossed with an anchor which I will paint tomorrow.  My boat is also made of airdry clay and brushed with mica dust. I haven't done a rowing boat for a while and they are just so cute, this one is pretty dinky too (the pendants are roughly the size of a 2 pence piece.)

I will add pics of all the entries tomorrow along with the completed pendants :)

A Boat a Day (no.333)

Todays boat started out as two different projects, one a mosaic from magazine squares abandoned months ago and the other an ink blot which I tried to shape. I had a bit more of a play with some of the techniques me and Taz have been using to create a beautiful guestbook for our sister.

A Boat a Day (no.332)

I love my boat dress but I don't have enough opportunities to wear it so today I cut up another piece of clothing that was lacking. I used the shapes from foresails on the front and knotted rope patterns along the edges and bottom hem. I added some simple lacing as rigging to one side and some more ladders and rope to the back and one sleeve. It's pretty comfortable and will get a good durability/movement test when I wear it to work later :)
I'm suddenly thinking of all those other clothes that are a bit dull, or ill fitting and wondering when I'll have time to work some magic on them all. This was a no-sew project, which is my favourite thing for textiles, quick and easy.

A Boat A Day (no.331)

Today I tried a journal page on Gimp, using the same technique of layers and white-washing. The boat shape was created by me and Taz pulling boat poses on our riverside adventure yesterday, I have more images to use at a later date.

A Boat a Day (no.330)

Tam whisked me and Taz off on a riverside adventure to complete our various 365's today, we had a lot of fun taking photos and videos of us posing and dancing like loonies. There will be some interesting human sculptures coming up tomorrow, but for now here is a charcoal boat I drew on a picnic table. Sustainable graffiti as the rain will wash it off when the time comes. :)

A Boat A Day (no.329)

Today me and Taz have been playing with art journals, after getting lots of inspiration from various Youtuber's  both of us woke up this morning and proceeded to play with ink, stamps, white wash, scrap paper and straws. This is my end result, and I have to say I'm in love. My ink exploration plan for the next 365 is getting more and more exciting as I find new ways to use it and new ink-based products.

A Boat a Day (no.328)

Today I have just etched a little boat onto a piece of slate, fun and simple. Definitely a nice change from the computer art I have been working on.
Anyway have a nice evening. x

A Boat a Day (no.327)

It's been a challenge colouring this image, I am still not done with it yet but I have to stop now as my eyes are getting blurry. There is a lot of detail and texture in there today, you might have to enlarge the image to see it properly.
Anyway I'll have a little break from this for a day or so and do some more next week.
Good Night x

A Boat a Day (no.326)

I spent a lot of time getting the base details right, using yesterdays drawing as a guide I have begun to fill in the colour. But I've only got as far as the base layer so I think tomorrow will be shadows, highlights and hopefully some detail.

A Boat a Day (no.325)

Good Evening, it's pretty late now, my boat today has been a bit time consuming, so much so I think it is going to be continued over the next couple of days, as all I have so far is the outline.
It's been drawn on graph paper to get the details in place and the same shape and size, it's been really satisfying using the graph.
Anyone tomorrow...colour and perhaps some more detail :)
Oh and if your wondering where the sails and mast are it's and airship!

A Boat a Day (no.324)

It was about 20 degrees when I woke up today which, when you don't have work means only one thing...
Beach adventure. So todays boat has been sculpted in sand, thanks to the help of Tam and Justin it was created pretty quickly and looks spectacularly awesome. It's definitely great to get out of the city for a few hours.

A Boat a Day (no.323)

I used a selection of random bits and pieces I found while putting my studio back together (mildly). I applied layers of scrap paper with gesso, added loose threads into a rigging pattern and added a boat in cog detail. I had a lot of fun just playing with todays boat, I had no idea where it was going or what I was doing but I'm quite pleased with the result.

A Boat a Day (no.322)

I used a piece of scrap cloth for my boat today, once again I dyed it with tea and coffee, folding the fabric to make a natural reflection. My boat has been stitched on in tiny seed beads . I had a different picture in my head when I began this but things work in unexpected ways sometimes and I enjoy running with spontaneous ideas.

A Boat a Day (no.321)

Good Evening, it's been a fantastic weekend taking part in the Easton Arts Trail. I've loved every part of it and I know the others sharing my space did too. We displayed all our 365 projects so far, we had a Youtube playlist to show all of Taz's video's and Tam's dancing and other random things. All of my boats were proudly displayed in my living room amidst bits and pieces for the wedding and our stock and of course Taz's landscapes. As always I didn't get a chance to really explore we saw lots of bunting and some pomp-pomps decorating trees. I have spent a lot of time painting swirls and patterns on peoples faces.
For today's boat I cut out a piece of card and got as many people as I could to sign it as they came through the doors. There is even a little boat on there drawn by a stranger :)

We shared our 365 story with all our visitors and sent a far few people away with links to Noah Scalin and his amazing inspiration. So perhaps there will be more projects coming from Bristol in the near future.

A Boat a Day (no.320)

It's been a  very long day so my blog this evening is brief, I will fill in the fun details properly tomorrow. Suffice to say the Easton Arts Trail has been superb and I'm looking forward to another fun day tomorrow. My boat today is a rainbow boat made of pipe-cleaners. See you tomorrow :) x

A Boat a Day (no.319)

We have been having lots of fun transforming my house into a gallery to display our Moon and Magic stock, Our various 365 projects and we'll be having Indian Head Massage too. I'm very excited, it's all looking lovely. Today's boat is a similar idea to yesterday, but less detailed and in miniature.

Thursday 13 June 2013

A Boat a Day (no.318)

Today's boat is made up of lots of layers, I began with canvas paper which I stained with tea, coffee and fruit tea. I added a touch of blue acrylic to the sea and lots of iridescent medium before I worked some black ink in to pick out detail. It's pretty hard to take a photograph as the tones are so subtle and the iridescence is SO shiny!

Wednesday 12 June 2013

A Boat a Day (no.317)

I've made a little boat inspired installation for the Easton Arts Trail, it's a bit abstract but will make the room look more nautical. Today we have been preparing the house, getting into all those dusty corners and covering unwanted spaces with drapes. Here begins the transformation of home to gallery.
:)

A Boat a Day (no.316)

A trio of boats made from only white materials. Pretty simple but quite fun.

Monday 10 June 2013

A Boat a Day (no.315)

I have 50 days left of my project! 50 days doesn't seem like much now I've done 315, and this weekend we have the Easton Arts Trail where we'll be exhibiting our various 365 projects (among other things). So to prepare for that I have been annotating my sketchbook, which has been pretty fun as I find more and more things to say about my year long project.
When I got home yesterday a new set of colouring pencils were waiting for me so i had some fun today. Using a black and white image to start I cut out sections and redrew them while watching The Rescuers.

A Boat a Day (no.314)

Science Burlesque was good fun, not quite what I expected, certainly not enough burlesque going on. But it was a laugh, we all went out dressed up in labcoats and corsets and listened to jokes about the mating habits of angler fish and ink blot tests. Very amusing.
Anyway now I am home and have been enjoying some sunny time in the garden, todays boat is left over from Friday as I made my little headband instead yesterday. But I've been getting inspired today so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
My boat for today is a collage of rubbings I took from a set of bellows at my mums house. They were very high relief so it's a little hard to see the detail, but I still love the effect.

A Boat A Day(no.313)

Good Afternoon, it's a lovely day today. I've been soaking up the sunshine in my mums lovely back garden. There are even bees!
Tonight we will be going to 'Science Burlesque' show, I will let you know what that is tomorrow but I'm pretty excited. Me, Taz and Mum have been getting ready in style with wine face masks and hair dying last night.
My boats always get a boost when I go home, there is so much inspiration. I already did todays boat last night but now I'll be saving that for tomorrow as my Nan appeared with some amazing buttons for me. I made it into a simply cute hairband. Apparently she can get me thousands of these! :)

Friday 7 June 2013

A Boat A Day (no.312)

At my folks today, enjoying some quality time with my mum and puppy. We've had a nice evening so far and will be dying some hair soon. I made my boat before I left for the train today, it's a charm necklace with multiple chains. I'll be wearing it tomorrow with my new dress and new shoes :)

Thursday 6 June 2013

A Boat a Day (no.311)

I've been working hard to complete some of the wedding decor in time for this weekend. I'll be going home for my sisters Hen-Do and I want to take atleast a sample of everything I've been doing. Unfortunately, engrossed as I was in painting initials and making hearts from withy, I forgot until now to make a boat today. I made it from a few stems of wheat, simply natural.

Wednesday 5 June 2013

A Boat a Day (no.310)

Today I designed a colouring competition for the Easton Arts Trail, I'm going to my mum's this weekend and she always loves to show off her printer so I'll be printing a batch for people to take home and colour in. However I have decided that this competition can be open to you too, so feel free to download and print (or paint on your computer which is what I have done) and email it to me before the June 20th Deadline! I will choose a winner and up to three runner's up who will receive a random boat from my collection.

Please remember Colouring Competitions are for life not just your childhood.

A Boat A Day (no.309)

I've had the house to myself this evening, a very unusual occurance. To make the most of it I have been watching girly movies and painting my nails. I tried to do a nail boat before but they were hideous! This time they are much cuter.

Monday 3 June 2013

A Boat A Day (no.308)

Me and Taz are hosting an open house at the Easton Arts Trail in a few weeks, we will be exhibiting our 365 projects among other things and have begun making a collaborative banner to hang outside. My boat for the day is a recycled bit of bedding with some fantastic detail, so far we have changed the pirates so they are us, and added the lettering. Tomorrow we will do some beading and other details to add a bit of personal bling.

A Boat a Day (no.306)

today is going to be a bit busy so I'm writing my blog a bit earlier. Today I have designed and created my own joke legendary land, with silly ruling and flavour text.
