A Boat a Day (no.305)

Good Evening, I have just painted a very simple yacht and island for today boat in watercolours.

A Boat a Day (no.304)

Today has been a productive day, I've made some great progress with the wedding decorations. The end is in sight (at least for the things I have started.) My boat for the day is an etching, I have done a predesigned scratch boat before, but this was a blank card and even better it's glow in the dark! Photographing it was a bit of a nightmare because without the flash you couldn't see what I could see, and with it it's just a picture. So I've edited in a little ghoulish glow.

A Boat a Day (no.303)

I made a plate using recycled Styrofoam which I carved into and used to print. I am quite out of practice with printing but I had alot of fun making mess.

A Boat a day (no.302)

Good evening, it's a late one I know, but I've been out all day enjoying some "new house" shenanigans. However I made todays boat while I was there, I have used lego before to make a boat but it was pretty rushed and very lacking in imagination and general boaty goodness. Today's is much improved.

A Boat a Day (no.301)

I stumbled across a stash of burlap in the charity shop the other day, the guy who works there must think we are crazy, me and Taz always go in and buy up the random crap no-one else wants. So today I sat down and started to make burlap roses for the wedding, they are super easy and look pretty cute too. I used the same process in making todays boat, it is a bit twisty and a bit random, but you should be used to that by now.

A Boat a Day (no.300)

Just 65 days to go! Part of me is looking forward to the end of this project, just so I can start another one. I already have plans for that brewing but I will definitely take a month or two off. For todays boat I stepped into my imagination and the details I have picked up over the last 300 days and had a bit of fun. This is my boat, the one I would own and sail across the clouds and her name is "Caligo  Moon"

A Boat a Day (no.299)

A boat a day is my challenge,
Boats of all colours and creeds,
Of paper and fabric and recycled junk,
And edible ones of course,
Two hundred and ninety nine and counting,
An inspirational journey,
Despite days of creative drought
A refreshing breath of artistry

Yes you should, that’s right, YOU. Begin your creative journey today!

A Boat a Day (no.298)

I drew todays boat without taking the pencil off the paper, its very simple but I quite like that sometimes. It's been such a miserable day today that I've had a bit of a rainy day, with card games and plenty of tea and biscuits. It's been good :)

A Boat a Day (no.297)

I had a bit of a block today, after playing around with some luggage tags and ink I gave up and just went a bit stamp happy.

A Boat a Day (no.296)

Today has been a very productive day and I've spent some much needed time with Genie. She let both me and Taz draw on her for our daily projects.

A Boat a Day (no.295)

I can't believe I'm nearly at 300 days, that's a lot of boats. I have remembered crafts and techniques I did as a child and have had a lot of fun revisiting them, as well as learning new skills. Today I've used tin foil to make a light boat, by poking holes in it and letting the fading sunlight shine through. There is some lovely colour play in the reflection which I didn't plan, but these are always the things I like the most.

A Boat a Day (no.294)

Good Evening, it is late but todays boat has been finished for hours. I used an old photograph mounted on board to make a jigsaw. It has been tested on my friends and seems to be a little challenging. I really like the picture aswell.

A Boat a Day (no.293)

I've always found illuminated manuscripts to be very enchanting, there is so much going on, and when colour is used they are vivid and have an almost stained-glass quality. I could only find the black ink today so I worked with water to bring out the many tones and shades. I worked with a viking boat for this project and one of the fonts I practiced a few weeks back.

Saturday 18 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.292)

Today I've made a 'boatiful floaterby' on GIMP, using shapes and patterns inspired by boats. Enjoy the sunshine today, I'm off to work. :)

A Boat A Day (no.291)

As I have been braiding for most of the day I thought it only fitting I make a braided boat. It was pretty hard to come up with a boaty pattern the use of an embroidery hoop helped to separate my threads but wasn't very stable.

Thursday 16 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.290)

I am in the process of making dozens of braids for the backs of chairs for the wedding. I've made 6 of around 60, which is a bit daunting. Today's boat is made of coiled braids.

A Boat A Day (no.289)

I have added a little boat to my origami repertoire, while I was making these today I remembered the first time I learned origami. I was at a Live Roll Play event with my family, I was quite young and it was Christmas, we got things like pick up sticks and cup and ball toys for presents and had a giant banquet (as I recall there was even haggis but I don't think I tried it.) Anyway I learned how to make a water bomb from a pirate that weekend and had a little go on a set of bag pipes! Pretty memorable.
I have made origami sampans for you before, but these are a more advanced boat and something that is already looking at home hanging in my window.

A Boat a Day (no.288)

It was rather late in the day when I decided to add to my salt dough ship, today I've done the stern. I've cut a few more holes into the sides which I will strengthen another day, then it will be onto the deck and other fun. :)

Monday 13 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.287)

I spent a lot of today making a sedge or siege of cranes for my sisters wedding, I arranged a few into a boat before I made them into garlands. There is something therapeutic about origami, once you know the drill.

Sunday 12 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.286)

I found this pattern online it took me the first boat to get to grips with it but it's turned out pretty well, I do want to find some other boat patterns as this could do with a bit more definition. I am going to finish it up as an anklet before I go to bed.

A Boat a Day (no.285)

Good Afternoon, I don't usually blog this side of work but I've got an hour to kill so here we are :) I drew this while watching Heroes this morning. I forgot how fun the first series was, shame it goes a little random. Anyway this has been drawn in biro and various sketching pencils for extra definition. It looks much more effective from a distance.

A Boat a Day (no.284)

Seen as I've been having a lot of fun with salt dough, and exploring different parts of boats and ships I decided to do a miniature view inside the captain's cabin. My captain is a bit spartan but he'll get some cool upgrades in the future. I may end up with more boat interiors eventually, that would be awesome!

Other than the salt dough I used a PG Tips box, some satin ribbon and other trim, lots of paint and some assorted paper scraps for the books and maps.

Thursday 9 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.283)

I found a homemade recipe for plaster of paris (2 parts warm water, 3 parts flour), and some foraged bark chips which I arranged into a boat and set. Nice and simple, we will see how will this recipe sets tomorrow, it's still a bit tacky now.

Wednesday 8 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.282)

I had a play with magazines today, a little abstract collage, which I outlined in places.

Tuesday 7 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.281)

Good evening, we've had a couple of lovely days here so in between crafting and cleaning I have been soaking up as much sun as I can. I have also been taking the spring cleaning into the kitchen, (one room at a time.) We spent a good few hours cleaning out cupboards and de-greasing everything... Yet I still found time to make some salt dough plaques, I made a few trial hearts for my sisters wedding, (more details to be found eventually on my diy wedding diary. I discovered a weird thing with acrylic and salt dough, it appears that the paint dries to a tacky state instantly which comes away in strips. I would have always used poster paint before which has alot more water, bit of a pain but we got there eventually.

Monday 6 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.280)

I drew a reflection of a mast and sail in some water today, as I've come to really like the distorted version of boats.

Sunday 5 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.279)

I took this picture on my walk last week, I love the simplicity of the barge appearing from behind the trees. I was going to play with it but actually, here it is in its original form.

Saturday 4 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.278)

After watching The Life of Pi the other day I have felt very inspired and made todays boat with it in mind. I thin it is the most beautiful film (both in the cinematography and the story.) I read the book years ago and could only vaguely remember the story, but I do recall the strange floaty like feeling I had after reading it, the film delivers the same emotion, which is very unusual. Basically what I'm trying to say is, it's an amazing film and my new fave :)

A Boat a Day (no.277)

neon doodle boat
Its another Doodle boat today, though a bit more structured and planned than a doodle should be perhaps. And very neon! My pink has run out now which is a shame, but thankfully it got the job done.

A Boat a Day (no.276)

After seeing Taz do her embroidered landscape the other day I had to join her, so I used my typography practice to stitch my new favourite quote onto this cloud fabric, (which has actually followed me since I was a child when I had them for curtains.) I really enjoyed doing this, especially as I started it on Tuesday but had other bat plans for that day and yesterday, so I can take my time, picking it up and putting it down when I pleased. Very relaxing actually.

Wednesday 1 May 2013

A Boat a Day (no.275)

Today has been a day of walking along the riverbank and basking in sunshine. Me and Taz went to sketch and photograph, Taz for landscapes, me for boats, though there was a lot less of the latter than was expected for such a nice day. In the end we did come across a couple of barges, some canoes and even a little boathouse. I will  have to take my sketching it to the harbourside where there are lots of boats and they mostly sit still! I did take a lot of photographs though and this one is my favourite. I have removed the boat altogether so all you can is its reflection which has had a little bit of a filter put on it because it is so cool and looks a little bit liker graffiti.
